Overview

Built for Buildings That
Can't Slow Down.

Stairs are the hardest-working surface in a house — and the first place a bad install shows its problems. A floating stair cap that wasn't glued properly will flex, creak, and separate at the nosing within months. ValorCraft installs glue-down stair treads and risers with the same full-bond discipline we apply to commercial floors: substrate prepped, adhesive matched to the product, nosings mechanically fastened as required, and every riser fitted tight so nothing moves. The result is a stair that feels solid underfoot and holds up to the daily impact of a real household.

  • Full-spread adhesive on treads and risers — no hollow flex underfoot
  • Nosings glued and mechanically fastened per the nosing manufacturer's spec
  • Risers scribed to out-of-plumb walls so joints are tight from face to wall
  • Coordinated with LVP flooring installs — same crews, same schedule

What's Included

Full Commercial Scope —
Demo To Punch List.

One contract, one crew. Substrate prep, install, transitions, and base — everything that touches the floor stays under our scope.

  • Glue-Down LVP Stair Treads

LVP stair tread caps or overlay treads installed with full-spread adhesive — bonded across the entire tread surface so there's no hollow sound or flex at the center of the step.

  • Glue-Down Vinyl Stair Treads

Commercial sheet vinyl or homogeneous vinyl stair treads glued to wood or concrete stair substrate — often used in multi-family and commercial applications for durability and cleanability.

  • Stair Nosings — Glue & Mechanical Fastening

LVP-matched or aluminum stair nosing profiles glued and fastened at the front edge of every tread — installed to the nosing manufacturer's fastener schedule so the front edge can't lift or separate.

  • Risers

LVP or paint-grade riser boards glued and fastened to each riser face — scribed to irregular walls and cut tight to the underside of the tread above so there are no gaps that collect debris.

  • Landing Transitions

LVP landing caps and reducer transitions between the stair landing and adjacent floor — fitted flush to the level change so there's no trip edge and the visual break is clean.

  • Demo of Existing Stair Covering

Carpet and tack strip removed from existing stairs, old adhesive residue scraped or ground, and substrate assessed for flatness and any structural repairs needed before new material goes down.

  • Substrate Repair

Split or cracked treads repaired, loose sub-risers secured, and high spots ground flat so the adhesive makes full contact across the tread surface — not just at the edges.

Why ValorCraft

The Commercial Standard
PMs Keep Calling Back.

Veteran-owned discipline applied to commercial flooring — clean schedules, accurate scopes, and crews that close out the punch list the first time.

  • No Flex, No Creak

Full-spread adhesive means the tread is bonded across its entire surface — not just at the nosing edge. When the adhesive is cured, there's nothing left to flex underfoot or separate at the seam.

  • Nosings That Stay Put

We glue and mechanically fasten stair nosings per the manufacturer's fastener schedule. An edge that's only glued will eventually separate under impact — we don't take that risk.

  • Matches Your LVP Floor

Stair caps and nosings sourced to coordinate with the LVP installed on the landing or adjoining room — same product line, same wear layer class, consistent visual from floor to stair.

  • In-House Crews

Same team that installs your floor installs your stairs — no handoff to a subcontractor who's never seen the material or your product spec.

  • Veteran-Owned Reliability

We show up when scheduled, finish what we scope, and clean the stair before we leave. If there's a stringer issue that needs to be addressed before we can glue down, you hear about it before adhesive is opened.

  • Piedmont Triad Coverage

Serving homeowners, builders, and property managers across Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem, and surrounding communities.

Our Process

Five Steps. No Surprises.
Schedules That Hold.

The same process whether it's one suite or one hundred — clear scope, clean prep, phased installs, and a closed punch list.

  1. 01

    Stair Measure & Assessment

We count risers, measure run depth, identify open versus closed stringers, and note the condition of existing treads and risers — including any structural issues that need to be addressed before install.

  2. 02

    Material & Profile Selection

Tread cap, nosing profile, and riser material confirmed — coordinated with your LVP product so species, color, and wear layer are consistent with the rest of the floor package.

  3. 03

    Demo & Substrate Prep

Existing carpet or tread covering removed, adhesive residue addressed, and sub-tread surface checked for flatness and any splits or voids before new material is laid.

  4. 04

    Glue-Down Install

Full-spread adhesive applied per the manufacturer's open time window — treads and risers set, pressed, and rolled; nosings glued and mechanically fastened; each step checked before adhesive sets.

  5. 05

    Transitions & Walkthrough

Landing transitions and reducers fitted; stair inspected for any unbonded sections; final walkthrough with you to confirm the finish and review the cure timeline before the stair is in use.

Common Questions

Answers
Before You Ask.

Can glue-down stair treads be installed over existing wood treads?

Yes — when the existing tread is flat, firmly attached, and in good condition. Loose, cracked, or significantly cupped treads need to be addressed first. We assess each tread during the site walk and flag any that need repair before overlay is viable.

Why do stair nosings need to be mechanically fastened and not just glued?

The front edge of a stair tread takes direct impact every time someone descends. Adhesive alone can creep over time under that repetitive load — mechanical fastening keeps the nosing in plane with the tread surface and prevents the edge from lifting even if the adhesive bond is stressed.

How long before we can use the stairs after installation?

Light foot traffic is typically safe after 24 hours. Full-cure load — kids running, heavy furniture being moved — usually takes 48 to 72 hours depending on adhesive, temperature, and humidity. We specify the timeline in writing before we start.

Do glue-down stairs work with metal or cable railings?

Yes — we coordinate the tread install around existing or planned rail post locations. For new rail posts that will be surface-mounted after the tread, we identify those locations so the adhesive layout doesn't create a void where the post base will land.

Can you match the LVP we already installed in our home?

Usually yes if the product is still in production and the dye lot is available. We source from the same product line when possible and apply the stair cap from the same run as your field material so there's no visible color variation.

What's included in a typical stair scope?

Demo of existing covering, substrate assessment and any minor repairs, full-spread tread install, nosing, risers, landing transition, and a final walkthrough. Structural stringer repairs, custom returns on open-sided flights, and landing framing are quoted separately when they come up during assessment.
