Overview

Built for Buildings That
Can't Slow Down.

Hardwood is the floor that adds value to a home — and the one that shows every mistake if it's installed by someone who cuts corners on acclimation, moisture, or nailing. ValorCraft installs solid and engineered hardwood the way it has to be done: acclimated on-site at living conditions, substrate checked for flatness and moisture before the first board is nailed, and every run laid tight with consistent reveal. We serve homeowners, builders, and designers across the Piedmont Triad who want a hardwood floor that performs for decades, not just looks good on move-in day.

  • Solid and engineered hardwood — nail-down, staple-down, and glue-down installs
  • On-site acclimation to living conditions before installation begins
  • Moisture testing on slab and wood subfloors per NWFA guidelines
  • Species and grade selection matched to your finish schedule and lifestyle

What's Included

Full Commercial Scope —
Demo To Punch List.

One contract, one crew. Substrate prep, install, transitions, and base — everything that touches the floor stays under our scope.

  • Solid Hardwood — Nail & Staple Down

Domestic and exotic solid planks installed over wood subfloor with a flooring nailer or stapler — row spacing, face-nail at walls, and blind-nail in field matched to species and board width.

  • Engineered Hardwood — Float, Nail, or Glue

Engineered plank installed using the method the manufacturer specifies for the substrate: floating with underlayment, nail/staple over plywood, or full-spread adhesive on slab.

  • Subfloor Preparation

Squeaky boards secured, high spots sanded or ground, low areas patched, and substrate checked for flatness to 3/16" over 10 feet before any hardwood is unboxed.

  • Moisture Testing & Mitigation

Subfloor and hardwood moisture content measured with a pin or pinless meter; slab installations tested for vapor emission per NWFA and the manufacturer's spec before adhesive is selected.

  • Borders, Feature Strips & Inlays

Contrasting species borders, feature strips between rooms, and decorative inlays routed and fitted for custom installations and renovation projects.

  • Transitions & Thresholds

Reducers, T-moldings, and thresholds where hardwood meets tile, carpet, or a different floor height — fitted in solid or engineered stock to match the field material.

  • Base, Quarter Round & Shoe Molding

Paint-grade or stain-grade base shoe and quarter round installed to cover the expansion gap — coped at inside corners, mitered at outside corners, finished flush to the door casing.

Why ValorCraft

The Commercial Standard
PMs Keep Calling Back.

Veteran-owned discipline applied to commercial flooring — clean schedules, accurate scopes, and crews that close out the punch list the first time.

  • Acclimation Done Right

Hardwood delivered to the job site before install and acclimated at the home's living humidity and temperature — reduces gapping, cupping, and seasonal movement after you move back in.

  • Moisture Never Skipped

We test both the subfloor and the wood stock before installation begins. If readings are out of spec, we wait or mitigate — not install and hope for the best.

  • Tight, Consistent Lay

Rows racked for color and grain, consistent spacing maintained, and end joints staggered properly — so the floor reads as a single cohesive surface, not a patchwork of random boards.

  • In-House Crews Only

No subcontractors. The same team that measured and scoped the job shows up to install it — with the same standards and the same accountability.

  • Veteran-Owned Reliability

Punctual, clean, and communicative. If we find something unexpected in the subfloor, you hear about it before we decide how to handle it.

  • Refinish-Ready Finish

When you're ready to refinish in 15 or 20 years, a solid-hardwood floor installed correctly has the wear layer to support it. We install with that future in mind.

Our Process

Five Steps. No Surprises.
Schedules That Hold.

The same process whether it's one suite or one hundred — clear scope, clean prep, phased installs, and a closed punch list.

  1. 01

    Site Assessment & Measure

We walk the space, measure square footage, assess subfloor condition, note existing transitions and door heights, and confirm species, grade, and width with you or your designer.

  2. 02

    Estimate & Material Order

Line-item quote covering material, prep, installation, transitions, and trim — with overage factored for waste and pattern. Product ordered once the quote is signed.

  3. 03

    Delivery & Acclimation

Hardwood delivered to the job site and stacked in the installation rooms with HVAC running at normal living conditions — acclimation period per species and manufacturer.

  4. 04

    Subfloor Prep & Moisture Test

Subfloor secured, leveled, and moisture-tested before the first board is placed. Any remediation done before installation begins — never after.

  5. 05

    Installation & Trim

Layout established, boards racked and installed row by row, transitions fitted, and base shoe or quarter round installed. Final walk with you before we pack out.

Common Questions

Answers
Before You Ask.

How long does hardwood need to acclimate?

Generally three to seven days at the job site with HVAC running at normal living conditions. Wider planks and denser species can take longer. We don't rush this step — moving too fast is one of the most common reasons hardwood gaps or cups after install.

Can hardwood be installed on a concrete slab?

Engineered hardwood can be glued or floated over a slab when moisture readings are within the manufacturer's spec. Solid hardwood typically cannot go directly on slab — we'd either recommend engineered or a wood subfloor over the concrete. We test before we advise.

What species do you work with?

We install all standard domestic species — red and white oak, maple, hickory, walnut, cherry, and ash — and most imported species available through major distributors. Species selection depends on the hardness, the finish schedule, and your budget.

Do you install prefinished or site-finished hardwood?

Both. Prefinished is faster — you're walking on it the same day. Site-finished lets you customize the stain and sheen, but the finish needs cure time. We handle the installation either way and can coordinate with a finish schedule if you're doing site-finish.

What subfloor do you need to nail into?

Solid hardwood requires a wood subfloor — typically 3/4" plywood or OSB at minimum. Engineered hardwood is more flexible and can go over plywood, OSB, or slab depending on the install method. We'll confirm what's there during the site walk.

Will my floor creak after installation?

A properly prepped and installed hardwood floor should not creak. We secure squeaky subfloor areas before we start, use proper fastener spacing, and check each row as we go. Seasonal humidity swings can cause minor movement in any wood floor, but structural squeaks are a subfloor problem — we address those before the hardwood goes down.
